The Joffe Charitable Trust

The Joffe Charitable Trust (set up by Joel and Vanetta Joffe in 1968) supports people working for public benefit in the developing world.

Joel Joffe inspired, encouraged and supported people frrom all walks of life to do extraordinary things for public benefit. The Trust continues his work and builds on his legacy.

Our mission is to inspire and support people to do as much as possible to realise human rights and reduce poverty in developing countries.

The Trustees recognise that there is much need and significant poverty in the United Kingdom. But they believe that there is even greater need in the developing world, and because of that and in order to be effective it is necessary to focus narrowly.

From time to time, the trustees will review the Trust's funding policy. Any changes will be posted on this website. The most recent changes were made in 2018.

Our annual accounts (including previous grantees) can be accessed here.

The trustees are:

The Director is Alex Jacobs.
The Trust Manager is Carin Lake.

*** Update, April 2019 ***

For administrative reasons, in April 2019 the work of the Trust was moved to a new entity, the Joffe Charitable Trust CIO, UK registered charity 1180520. The new entity has the same aims and approach as the previous Trust. We will be updating our website soon with full details.
