How to Apply

Step 1 - Initial enquiry

The Joffe Charitable Trust is a relatively small charitable trust and we are only able to make a few new grants each year. Most of the initiatives we fund come to us through our existing networks. However, we always welcome enquiries from high quality applicants whose work is in line with the Trust’s objectives.

If you would like to approach us for funding please read What We Fund carefully.

If you are satisfied that your proposal meets our criteria and fits our current funding focus, please send a brief email (up to four paragraphs only - no attachments) to the Trust Manager Carin Lake at Your email should include the following:

  • Name and brief description of your organisation, its charity number, annual income and website details
  • An outline of your proposal
  • The amount of funding you are seeking.

We aim to reply to enquiries within one month. If we consider there is merit in pursuing a proposal, you will be invited to submit a full application.

Step 2 - Full application process

NB This application process applies ONLY to applicants who have been invited to submit an application. Initial enquiries must be made in one brief email (see above).

If we have asked you to submit an application to the Trust, please provide:

  1. A full proposal, up to about 8 pages long, covering:
    • An introduction to the initiatives for which you are seeking funding
    • Goals & objectives
    • Targets and expected results, specified for each year of the grant
    • The major external stakeholders who will have to be involved to achieve success, and what their roles will be
    • Your approach to measuring results and impact, including feedback from external stakeholders
    • Sustainability: how the work will contribute to long term results after the end of this funding period
    • Management arrangements
    • Safeguarding policy & practices, as relevant
  2. A budget giving the overall cost of the work you are seeking funding for, details of other funding available, and your proposed allocation of a Joffe Trust grant
  3. CVs of your CEO and key operational managers
  4. Latest audited accounts and annual report

We may seek further information in order to clarify specific issues, or may telephone or arrange to meet you or your organisation’s key representatives in order to discuss your application further. Shortlisted applications will be put before the full board of Trustees at the next available Trustees’ meeting (of which three are held each year). Applicants may be asked to make a presentation at this meeting to the full board of Trustees.
